What We Did
Ochsner Medical Center needed an expanded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to support increased patient demand and its growing pediatric cardiovascular surgical program. The 12 bed PICU is designed to be Acuity Adaptable, allowing the patients to stay in the unit even as their treatment level changes. The theme of “sailing at sea” was chosen by staff and patients to create a child-like atmosphere. The theme was carried throughout the unit by use of materiality on the floors, walls, and ceilings. Staff were involved through the entire planning and design process to ensure the correct layout and equipment was in place for the most effective and efficient treatment of patients.
